Open Studio Art Camp for High School Students

Tuesday, August 4 – Saturday, August 8, 2026

9:30am-3pm daily, $225 until May 31, then $250

The River Art Centre, 8746 Main St, Florenceville-Bristol, NB

We are excited to share a dynamic and inspiring Summer Art Camp designed specifically for high school students. This week-long open studio program will foster creativity, exploration, and skill development by encouraging students to pursue their own ideas and concepts through a variety of artistic mediums. The camp aims to cultivate individual artistic voices, expand technical proficiency, and deepen conceptual understanding. We look forward to inspiring the next generation of artists through this engaging and personalized experience.

This week long Art Camp is designed for high school students with a basic interest in art, open to exploring new ideas and techniques. No prior advanced skills are required – just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.

In this Art Camp:

  • Students will have dedicated hours each day to work on their projects, with access to a variety of materials and tools.
  • Students will come up with an initial idea or theme – such as animals, landscapes, culture, or abstract concepts – and refine their vision throughout the week.
  • While students can choose their preferred medium, they are encouraged to experiment with different techniques, such as painting, sculpting, sketching, collage, or mixed media.
  • Optional daily mini workshops will introduce techniques and concepts relevant to students’ projects, including colour theory, composition, sculpting techniques and conceptual development.
  • Regular group critiques will foster constructive feedback, inspire new directions, and build confidence.

At the end of the week, we will conclude with a showcase of students’ work, highlighting their process, ideas, and technical achievements!

It will be a pop-up show that the community can attend!

Meet Nicole!

Nicole Manuel is an artist and educator with a background in craft, design, and fine arts. She studied at Sheridan College and NSCAD University.

With over 25 years of experience teaching children’s art, she has led numerous workshops, developed art programs, and owned/operated Creative Minds Studio for Young Artists (a children’s art studio in Halifax, NS). She has also taught at community centres and now works as a substitute teacher and volunteer art club leader, dedicated to inspiring young artists.

Participants will leave the camp with a portfolio of work that reflects their personal ideas, improved technical skills, and a broadened perspective on artistic possibilities. They will also gain confidence in articulating their concepts and engaging in the creative process.
