Art in the Classroom

The Art in the Classroom program, sponsored by The Andrew & Laura McCain Art Gallery, loans, free of charge, original works of art to classrooms in ASD-West for 3-week periods. The gallery’s education team, led by Susan Galbraith, former Fine Arts Lead for ASD-West, has designed an extensive resource package to accompany each piece on loan. A PowerPoint slideshow introduces students to other artworks by the artist and takes you into the artist’s studio showing how they create their work and the tools of their trade. It also includes links to the gallery’s youtube channel which houses short videos of the artists talking about their work. Each package comes with a resource document that includes an array of teaching and learning activities that are richly cross-curricular. A section of picture books to make literacy connections with the art and rounds out the package.
