Executive Director & Curator
Jennifer Stead, BFA, Dip in Art Ed, MFA joined the Andrew & Laura McCain Art Gallery as Executive Director & Curator in February 2017. Along with a successful professional art practice, Jennifer has over 25 years of art education experience having worked in five provinces and at all levels of visual art education.
She received her BFA at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, completed an Arts Education degree at McGill University and completed her MFA at the University of Calgary, winning the 2007 Chancellor’s Medal for her thesis. As a practicing artist Jennifer’s art is based in painting and drawing and her public art sculptures are an extension of that practice. Her work is represented in various private, public and corporate collections nationally and she has been the recipient of many provincial and federal arts grants.
Art Education Coordinator
Bryanne Thomas, BFA & BAAE, was born and raised in Centreville, New Brunswick. Bryanne was greatly influenced by the Fine Arts program at our own Carleton North High School and went on to study Fine Arts at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Bryanne holds her BFA & BAAE in Art Education. A talented artist in many mediums, the focus of Bryanne’s own art practice is primarily in painting and drawing.
Leading the art education arm of the gallery since 2013, Bryanne is dedicated to art education, awareness and participation/outreach. Her aim is to facilitate creative experiences, support exploration and engagement with visual art and offer opportunities for the exchange of art ideas, knowledge and understanding to individuals of all ages through our programming.
Bryanne coordinates and delivers the art programs for the Andrew & Laura McCain Art Gallery in the Gallery, at the River Art Centre Studios and develops individualized programs for the local schools. Every season she offers art programs for art students of all levels, ages and interests and showcases students’ art in the Gallery each spring. Other programs include Meet Art: gallery exhibition appreciation series, Community Fine Art and Fine Craft lessons taught by herself and other professional artists, Art & Activity for Life programming, March Break and Summer Arts programming.
