Jean Carsley


Jean Carsley  (1923-2007)

Born in New York, Jean received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in design at Brooklyn College.

Considered one of the pioneers of interior design in Quebec, she incorporated Jean Carsley Interiors in 1963. In 1972, she launched Designers i, and for 20 years, this exclusive furniture and accessory showroom in Montreal showcased fine imported accessories and accent furniture pieces.

Jean’s other passion was pastel painting. Her love of the Impressionist period manifested itself in her dreamy landscapes and figurative paintings. She travelled annually to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico to paint “en plein air”.

Jean was a signature member of the Pastel Society of Eastern Canada and a member of the Women’s Art Society of Montreal. Over a span of 25 years, she participated in many solo and juried exhibitions in Canada winning several awards.
